Urinate In Public & Get Arrested - Fashola Warns Lagosians

A displeased Governor Babatunde Fashola of
Lagos State has ordered officers of the Kick
Against Indiscipline, KAI, to henceforth arrest
people urinating and defecating in public places
across the state.
Fashola, who was on his way to the free health
mission at Oke-Ira, Ogba area of Lagos,
southwest Nigeria, Thursday, said he saw five
people urinating in public places and was
disgusted by such a despicable act.
“This is a violation of our sanitation law and I
will ask KAI to move out en-masse and
prosecute those who violate our laws,” he
lamented.
The governor urged residents to shun the
practice and adopt healthy lifestyle, saying that
environmental pollution contributes to the cases
of ill-health that affects community dwellers.
“The biggest doctor you can have is prevention.
If we all can imbibe better habits, it will reduce
the incidence of ill-health. Citizens must be
ready to take responsibility for their own
healthcare to live a healthy life, if we chose to be
cleaner than we are now, we would have a
healthy environment than we have right now,” he
said.
Fashola charged traditional rulers, Community
Development Associations and community
leaders to move to stop the habit which he
described as unhealthy and not speaking well of
the residents of Lagos as a people, saying
officers of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI)
would enforce the law in this respect.
He tasked the people of Oke Ira to lead from the
front by being the first community to stop
urinating in public, adding that when people
engage in such dirty habits, the environment
becomes unclean and it is easy to contract
diseases.
